Meadowsweet Love

I am so in LOVE with Sandi Henderson's Meadowsweet line of fabric. I bought a half yard bundle of Meadowsweet, and included in the bundle was splashy rose. I loved that fabric. So when she came out with Meadowsweet 2, I became even more in love with splashy rose in this colorway. I finally went a head and bought it. The colors are so pretty and so springy, you can't not fall in love!




I choose to make the 4 pocket tote with these fabrics. I love this tote, it is so simple, yet useful. There are 4 pockets on the outside and 3 on the inside. It closes with a magnetic snap and has just the right size of straps. Whenever I make a purse with this pattern it gets snapped right up out of the shop. The only reason I am not keeping this bag, is that I am going to try to make one that is a few inches larger! Having 2 kids, I don't think this will hold everything that I need to carry. I have these fabrics in mind for the one that I am going to make myself!



I bought the fabrics for Hawthorne Threads. I really love their shop! It is very easy to navigate and they have a great newsletter that they send out about once a week! The other plus is that they are located in New York. I live in New Jersey. I purchased the fabrics on Friday morning and had them in my mailbox on Monday afternoon. I only payed $2.50 for shipping and I had a tracking number! They have a really great selection of fabrics in their store! You should really check them out!

ACU BOHO BAG

So sorry it has been so long since my last post! I really have no excuse. I sit at the computer each morning and look at all the blogs that I follow, but do I post? Nope. Just nothing super interesting to post about. However, today I had a great sewing day! My husband is away for a few days, on TDY. So it has just been me and the kids. They have been great and have let me do many things!

Today I worked on a custom order. I had a lady contact me on Etsy and she wanted a ACU BOHO BAG with black lining. I was happy to do this because I have a lot of ACU fabric hanging around the house! I love being payed in fabric, it makes my day so great.



I was a little nervous because this is only the 2nd time making this bag. It is designed by ALI FOSTER. I won 3 of her patterns in a sewing contest. The bag has a beautiful braided strap, the only problem with this feature is that it is a little thick to sew on. The other thing that makes it a bit difficult is that it has curves and a gusset. Oh, and I also decided to add another layer of interfacing into that mix.




Talk about a thick, sturdy, georgeous bag! I did not have a single problem sewing this bag today. I took my time and relaxed! I knew I would have time this evening to sew it if I didn't finish this afternoon. I finished it in about 3 hours. My machine didn't fuse at me when I was sewing the strap on, didn't fuse when I was putting it all together. I didn't even have to use my seam ripper. Talk about a good afternoon of sewing!



Only wish I have would of been to have someone here to take a picture of me modeling it! I know I have a picture of me modeling it, but that was taken by my almost 4 year old daughter! She does a pretty good job!

Whats New

Welcome 2011! I know it has been already been 2 weeks, but I am just getting around to posting some new things!

Back in December, I won a pattern giveaway at the Sew Sweetness blog! The giveaway was 3 Ali Foster patterns of your choice! I was so excited, it was the first giveaway that I had won and I was picked because of a purse that I had made! The first pattern of the 3 that I picked was the BOHO BAG! It was a pretty easy purse to make. The only thing I found difficult was sewing on the braided strap.




The next new thing to share is the Quilt as you go Table runner! This was a tutorial that Amy from Diary of a Quilter did last year! So easy and it came out great! This was a gift from my mom for Christmas. The only thing that I had trouble with is the binding. I am pretty sure that I will get it eventually! I also added to night stand placemats as an extra! The fabric is the bed and breakfast collection from CONNECTING THREADS.




The next little item that I have made lately that I love is this little mini quilt! It is made from scraps from other projects. I love how it turned out! Both sides are different designs. The front is all flannel and the back has a little bit for light weight twill camoflauge. The flannel is all from FLANNEL QUEEN!

My Favorite Quilt

This is my all time favorite quilt. This was found at my Grandpa's cousin's house. When she was moved into a retirement home, we went through her house to find what we wanted to keep in the family and what was going to be donated and auctioned off. We were in her upstiars guest bedroom looking at quilts on the the bed. I mean QUILTS...there had to be about 10 on the bed, layed out one on top of the other! It was like a jackpot of quilty goodness!

I was in middle school at the time and my favorite color was orange. So when I saw this quilt my heart stopped! We really never used it after we got home with it. It was put in a dresser and stored there for about 6 years or so! Then I got married and started sewing. So after all of that time of just being stored, I pulled it back out and started using it. It is in amazing shape for how old it is.

The date was written on the quilt! I am assuming it was finished on this date! 12 37, December of 1937. The quilt squares are all hand pieced, and I am not sure if the sashing was hand pieced to the squares. There is really only one block that has any wear and tear and I am pretty sure that is because the fabric was thinner to start with.

One of the things about this quilt that amazes me is the prints. One of the centers of the star looks like a print from the Farmdale line of fabrics. I love the red dots mixed with the orange fabric.



I would love to be able to find a pattern to do this square. I really would like to make it with red and aqua fabrics or with purple sashing and star points. If anyone knows what kind of quilt square this is please let me know!

A day in the life

of a mom of 2!

I have a 3 1/2 year old and an 8 month old. Somedays you get alot done and some days not so much! Today was a not so much day!

Waylon is my 8 month old. Honestly, he is a pretty easy baby! If he has a full belly he is happy and he likes playing with his toys in his crib. I consider the crib the safe zone, away from his sister.

Jolie is 3 1/2 and she isn't difficult either! She is just at the age that it is really hard to keep her occupied for longer than 10 minutes!

So this morning, My husband had left to go out on a Motorcycle run and the kids and I were just going to hang out at the house today! Waylon was sleeping in his crib and Jolie was watching cartoons on my bed, so I decided to take a shower. I heard the door close to my room and really didn't think to much of it. She usually just finds something else to do. Well today that something else consisted of sticking a clear plastic bead up her nose. Yep and of course it got stuck.

I heard her crying when I got out of the shower and didn't really know what to expect. I found her in her room and she was having a fit. I asked her what was wrong and she just kept saying her nose hurt. I finally got her to explain better and figured it out.

So a few of our hours were spent in the ER today getting it removed. She did really well and was pretty brave! I can't really say to much! I had my parents taking to the ER all the time when I was kid! Heck I was there last month when I cut myself with my rotary cutter!

So that is a day in the life of a mother of 2....never know what it will be like, but love every minute with your kids!
